Ardrossan Castle Carnival 2016 56, Castle Hill 18
June 2016
The first Ardrossan Castle Carnival was held on 18 June 2016 to commemorate
the meeting of the Privy Council in Ardrossan exactly 470 years earlier on 18
June 1546. The Privy Council was the equivalent of the Cabinet of the Scottish
Government. The meeting was chaired by Lord James Hamilton, regent to the four-year-old
Mary, Queen of Scots, and effective King of Scotland. The celebration was hosted
by Ardrossan Castle Heritage Society.
Members and friends of Ardrossan Castle Heritage Society and children playing
the parts of members of the Privy Council and owners of Ardrossan Castle gathered
at the viewpoint sign before its unveiling by
North Ayrshire Council Provost Joan Sturgeon.
