Castle Hill 194 17
August 2016
Ardrossan Castle Heritage Society commissioned a resistivity survey on parts
of the Castle Hill to learn more about its history. This
involved marking a grid of squares then using a resistivity meter to pass an
electric current through the ground at one metre intervals. This measures the
resistance below ground level and can indicate the presence of underground objects
such as walls and ditches. The intention is to become more aware of the landscape
of the Hill hundreds of years ago when the Castle and its Church were in use.
Under the guidance of archaeologist Dr Oliver O'Grady, Heritage Society members
collected the necessary data which Dr O'Grady analysed and reported on.
