A sign indicating that there would be a building development on the site of the demolished Eglinton Arms Hotel in Princes Street was erected on 8 June 2007. Test boring started on 19 June 2007 and construction work on 5 November 2007. The building of Dockers Gardens was finished in the summer of 2009.
The Eglinton Arms Hotel was built in 1806 and 1807, badly damaged by fire on 31 January 2000 and demolished on 2 and 3 February 2000.
