The Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald of 8 March 1974 carried the following report.

INDOOR BOWLING CLUB OPENS AT ARDROSSAN

Declaring Ardrossan Indoor Bowling Club officially open last Saturday afternoon (2 March 1974), Provost John Fitzsimmons said he was sure the green would be a great asset to the town.

The Town Council, he said, were very proud of the "splendid building" which was one of the finest indoor greens in Scotland. Everyone concerned with the formation of the building was to be congratulated, and he wished all bowlers every success.

Provost Fitzsimmons opened the main doors of the club and led the way indoors where a large crowd of members and guests were welcomed by the president, Mr A Bryan.

Mr Bryan thanked Ardrossan Town Council for providing the club with "such lovely premises" which would be an asset to town and district, and said that he was convinced that the club would lead to the formation of many lasting friendships.

He was sure that in years to come they would find Ardrossan becoming a well-known name in indoor bowling.

The building was then dedicated in prayer by the Reverend Jean Thomson, minister of Ardrossan Congregational Church.

Mr P B Paterson, speaking on behalf of the Scottish Indoor Bowling Association, said the club was an "excellent place" which he was sure would give years of pleasure to all who used it.
