Before about 1960, Kilmahew Street was called Montgomerie Lane. In the mid 1970s, about two-thirds of Kilmahew Street was subsumed into Montgomerie Street as part of a major housing development.

This part of Kilmahew Street was called Quarry Lane in the late 1800s and early 1900s. It was so called because it led to a quarry that existed in the late 1890s.
