Montgomerie Street 7                                                                           1 December 2007

The four houses in the photograph are recessed further than other houses in Montgomerie Street. They were built in 1936 with postal addresses 4 to 7 Alfred Square for employees of Ardrossan Harbour Company. It was intended that numbers 1, 2 and 3 were built at right angles at the left and numbers 8, 9 and 10 at right angles at the right to form three sides of a square. The other houses were never built and Alfred Square became subsumed into Montgomerie Street in the 1960s with the introduction of postcodes.
