Construction of the planter to celebrate the centenary of Ardrossan Scouts, started in late June 2009 and ended in early July 2009.

Ardrossan Scouts were formed in 1909. The Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald of 23 September 2009 carried a report on their history.
