Big On The Beach was a project of community leisure, activity and fun, aimed at children and families. It ran from 2 to 6 August 2010. It included sport activities, an assault course, music, film and photography workshops, music workshops, mega beasts workshops, dance workshops, a gyroscope, podcasts, archery, beach games, beauty tasters, volleyball, a climbing wall, inflatables and pony rides. The Scottish Maritime Museum and K:A Leisure had stalls and 3TFM Radio broadcast live. The event was organised by Irvine Bay Regeneration Company and North Ayrshire Council and funded by the former.

South Beach is also featured in HMS Dasher Memorial, Putting Green and War Memorial.
