Big On The Beach was a project of community leisure, activity and fun, aimed at children and families. It ran from 4 to 6 August 2011. It included a wide range of events and activities including arts, sports, dance, music, media and lifestyle opportunities. The event was organised by Irvine Bay Regeneration Company. North Ayrshire Council, Young Scot and North Ayrshire Leisure were key partners.

South Beach is also featured in HMS Dasher Memorial, Putting Green and War Memorial.
