The Stanley Burn is known locally and inaccurately as the Galloway Burn. The name 'Galloway Burn' is not used on maps. The original Galloway Burn flowed through what is now Jack's Park in Saltcoats then beside Galloway Place and the railway line before joining the Stanley Burn in the Holm Plantation. At that point, the Galloway and Stanley Burns flowed into the sea. This explains why the Stanley Burn might be referred to as the Galloway Burn even though the latter has been filled in.
