Tait Hall, Montgomerie Street 1 4
August 2003
The Tait Hall is named after local woman, NanTait. Nan
was a community volunteer who helped many people by, for example, holding bingo
sessions and
tea dances for the elderly and assisting in
Currie Court. In
the early 1990s, community workers used
the Seton Hall in Seton
Street for youth activities. This was done with with the cooperation and support
of Nan Tait. After about a year, cracks appeared in a wall of Seton Hall and the
building was deemed unsafe. Other premises were required and part of the old library
in Montgomerie Street became available
with help from North Ayrshire Council around 1996. It was decided to name the
premises the Tait Hall after Nan who had served the community of Ardrossan and
was honoured as a Member of the Order of the British Empire (OBE).
A
sign pointing to Tait Hall was erected in Glasgow
Street on 14 September 2005.
